Classic Tattoo Flash- From the Hardy Passalacqua Collection:
Don Ed Hardy- The Seventies

In Western tattooing, there has long been a tradition of using flash, a prepared sheet of tattoo designs, to sell, inspire and apply tattoos. In many cases, this flash adorned the walls of tattoo shops or was shown in travel books to eager prospective clients. Flash was a necessity when serving large numbers of clients in rapid repetition, as was the case when a navy ship docked with a crew eager to get "stewed, screwed and tattooed!" There was often thematic recurrence with a variety of designs so the client could choose individually even when in the company of a like-minded group. The quality and quantity of the flash on the walls, in addition to the application by the artist, would strongly affect a shop's reputation and chance for success. The subject matter and style varied greatly from era and artist and still exists as a now respected part of the Western tattoo tradition.

This book is a collection of flash painted by Don Ed Hardy in the early years of his career, the 1970s. Even at this stage you can see the immense talent and power of Hardy's art. Flavored by location and clientele, these sheets are a great look into the tattoos of that era and of The "emerging" Godfather of Modern Tattooing. These 50 sheets painted and designed for the 70s by Ed are just as relevant and applicable as tattoo designs and folk art today. After the retirement of Ed Hardy, we feel it is important to study all eras and mediums of his artwork. An incredible reference and art book for all interested in the tattoo arts, for tattooers this book is an essential working resource tool with hundreds of sellable flash designs to offer your clients.
